We Can’t Consent to This

Brief: Design branding and merchandise for
campaign We Can’t Consent to This.

We Can’t Consent to This is a Women’s rights campaign that is fighting to make the ‘rough sex’ defence illegal. We have already succeeded in making the defence illegal in
domestic abuse cases in England and Wales.

Charlotte currently assists with design and social media.

Featured in Little Black Book and BITE Creative Brief and
(most importantly) Loose Women.

Charlotte designed a simplistic logo for the campaign that since been used in Parliament, Journalist Briefing Packs and Social Media.

Charlotte was especially Inspired by comments made by Twitter trolls. I turned these derogatory terms into
empowering designs that would unite the campaigners and supporters. She chose to have a bright aesthetic as she wanted these designs to draw attention and act as a conversation starter for a difficult topic.

Social Media

Charlotte currently helps to manage the We Can’t Consent to This social media. This involves platforms such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

The platforms are responsible for updating our supporters and encouraging them to sign the Grazia petition and write to their MP’s.

She is responsible for creating visuals, generating social campaigns, copywriting and scheduling.

Below are some examples that were created by her and the copy.

It was a landmark day in Parliament for us yesterday and now we have confirmation that the Government will act to stop the Rough Sex defence being used. We are elated and all of us are moved to see all the
campaigning finally paying off.

It’s not over yet though, in two weeks we’ll find out if the government’s amendments will go far enough in protecting all women. If these aren’t up to standard, we’ll be the first to point that out. We knew this journey would be long and we’re ready to keep going to ensure that all women
get the justice they deserve.

We’d love to thank everyone who has supported us. A thank you to MP’s @laura_farrismp, Harriet Harman and Mark Garnier. Thank you to @graziauk and @mumsnet. Finally a huge thank you to anyone who wrote, tweeted and emailed to their MP or the 67,000 (wow) that signed the petition, each and every one of you played a part in making the
world a better place for women.

Prime Minister @borisjohnsonuk described the Rough Sex Defence as “inexcusable” when challenged by @laura_farrismp during today’s Prime Minister’s Questions.

The Rough Sex Defence has been used by men to evade justice
for nearly 50 years. It is vital that the law is changed and
more is done to protect women.

We are incredibly pleased to see @borisjohnsonuk commit
to ensuring that the law is clear and to label the defence as inexcusable. There is a long way to go, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

On International Women’s Day, @baronessfloellabenjamin made this powerful speech in the House of Lords. It included @WeCantConsentto’s research that 60 women in the UK have been killed by men who have used the ‘sex game gone wrong’ as part of their defence. Appallingly they found a 90% increase over ten years, and just under half the time these claims worked: they even found that some of these killings
were not investigated as crimes.

It is time we #endroughsexdefence by writing to your MP
which can be found #linkinbio or on our ACT NOW web page.
